What we do
As well as our usual high visibility patrols and day to day policing responsibilities, the team focus on intelligence led operations with the aim of preventing and reducing crime on public transport networks.
Our team use a number of sources, including information from officers and transport officers, and reports from the public. The team also have access to over 2,500 CCTV cameras, which are staffed 24/7 to identify and respond to incidents which occur in bus, rail and metro stations.
Bus operations
We work alongside National Express to run operations on routes where buses are at risk of criminal damage.
Anti-social behaviour
We provide a problem-orientated approach to tackle ASB and nuisance incidents on public transport using a range of civil interventions.
Young people
We help young people who have been involved in incidents of nuisance or anti-social behaviour using the Restorative Justice Scheme.
CCTV
We work alongside our CCTV control room, who have access to over 2,500 cameras, to respond to incidents which occur on public transport.
Advice
We advise passengers about looking after their property when travelling, to avoid becoming targets of thefts.
Plain clothes operations
We conduct plain clothes operations to increase the likelihood of an arrest where intelligence suggests a specific time for an offence.
